 Chief Secretary’s office of the Uva Province has been nicknamed as the ancestral home of the Uva Provincial Council which is highest institution in the administration of Uva which is full of splendidly charming natural beauty.

Supervision of performance of functions vested in the Uva Provincial Council by 13th amendment to the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka by the Ministries, Deportments and Institutions, Coordination of functions launched by such institutions, development of financial and physical resources and management as well as training of human resources have been made the mission of the Uva Province chief secretary’s office which is the centre of administration of institutions of the Uva Provincial Council.

Powers and responsibilities of direct supervising of this administrations centre have been entrusted to the chief secretary. His Excellency the President appoints the Chief Secretary in terms of section 32, of the Provincial Council No. 42 of 1982. Normally Chief Minister’s concurrence is obtained for this appointment. Accordingly this officer functions as the Direct Supervisor of the following four sectors.


Chief Secretary’s Office

Executive, legislature and coordination of work of all ministries being the internal force of the Provincial Council take place under the chief secretary’s office. In addition to this, all functions coordination and follow up action of the external forces namely Presidential Secretariat, General Treasury , Financial Commission Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government are also done by this office.
